  6. usury in some Muslim countries. Under English
  7. law, usury remained forbidden until the 13th
  8. century, when trade and the need for credit
  9. was increased; for example, Jews were
  10. absolved from the ban on usury by the Fourth
  11. Lateran Council of 1215.
